It’s that time of the year again to explore the wonderland that is Cornwall at Christmas. We’re lucky some of Cornwall’s best beaches are right on our doorstep; there’s nothing better than a walk across Perranporth or Fistral on a wintery day before heading into a local café for a hot chocolate.
You’ll find Cornwall is also packed with a range of events and days out at this time of year that will have you feeling festive in no time. From chance encounters with Father Christmas to strolling through the fabulous Christmas markets in Newquay and Truro, here’s a selection of our top seasonal picks.
Padstow Harbour Lights
Padstow’s Christmas lights are particularly good ones, and this year the switch on happens on 30th November. Nadelik Lowen, a community Christmas celebration, is held on the same day around Duke Street and Market Place.
Be sure to visit the Tree of Lights, a Christmas tree on the bandstand near the harbour with a surrounding display covered in messages and dedications from the local community.
We’d recommend watching the festivities from the warmth from Pucelli’s restaurant, right on the harbour.
Ice Skating At Eden
Lace up your skates! Cornwall’s only ice rink is open at the Eden Project until February 2025.
With more lights than ever before, explore the famous Biomes as they are transformed into a twinkling night-time wonderland, with enchanting surprises around every corner, as well as a new interactive outdoor experience.
If you’re a local resident you can save a whopping 45% on admission prices, which will definitely add a little Christmas sparkle to your day!
Lappa Valley Railway
One of Cornwall’s best loved family days out, this 1.5 mile route takes you along the route of the historic Newquay – Chacewater line and there’s a wealth of seasonal family-friendly activities to enjoy.
Savour the magic of Cornwall’s secret world of play and trains at Christmas time and meet Father Christmas in his very special grotto, where a present awaits for the children.
